LMU | LA - Loyola Marymount University

Students integrate their art backgrounds with new skills for psycho-therapeutic work with clients.

MFT Students in Studio
Loyola Marymount University's Marital and Family Therapy With Specialized Training in Clinical Art Therapy Graduate department offers students an innovative and creative program which leads to a Master of Arts in Marital and Family Therapy with a specialization in the art therapy modality.

Our students are trained to integrate their art backgrounds as they acquire skills for psychotherapeutic work with clients, including children, adolescents, adults and families. The training fully prepares students to become practicing marital and family therapists committed to utilizing art processes in their work as psychotherapists.

As one of the first MFT programs in the state to adopt the new 60-unit requirement for licensure, LMU’s Marital and Family Therapy Graduate program is widely regarded as a leader in the areas of art therapy and community service. Both our students and faculty are committed to serving marginalized communities and deepening the intercultural conversation around the delivery of mental health services.
In recent years we have added a community service component to our program, The Helen B. Landgarten Art Therapy Clinic and expanded our commitment to interculturalism with our Art Therapy in Mexico summer program and our collaborations with Universidad Iberamerican in Mexico City.   Please follow these links to learn more about both these endeavors.

New Feature: Alumni Stories

The Department of Marital and Family therapy is pleased to inaugurate a new feature on our website called Alumni Stories.  Alumni Stories aims to honor our alumni who have made lifetime contributions to the field of Art therapy, as well as educated the community about art therapy’s potential to evoke, challenge, and transform.

For our first Alumni Story we are honored to feature Anne G. Kellogg, a graduate of 1989.

If you would like to be featured in Alumni Stories, or know of someone whose story would make a great addition, please e-mail Anthony Bodlovic.
