Dr. Michael Miranda coordinates the instrumental music program at LMU, teaches music history, and directs the LMU Guitar Ensembles. He holds a Master's Degree in Guitar Performance and a Ph.D. in Historical Musicology. He has initiated a guitar series at LMU that includes master classes and performances by some of today's greatest guitarists. A lutenist and specialist in medieval music, he has performed as a member of the Gregorian Schola of Los Angeles, a group specializing in the performance of Medieval vocal and instrumental music, and has participated in chant classes at the famous Solesmes Abbey in France. Dr. Miranda also performs as a soloist on a variety of early plucked-strings including Renaissance & Baroque lutes and guitars, vihuela, and theorbo. He is currently Associate Editor of the Journal of the Lute Society of America and serves on the Board of Directors for the Lute Society. [Assistant Professor.
