Carolyn Almos has taught at LMU since 2003. She holds a B.A. from Whitman College and an M.F.A. from California Institute of the Arts. An actress, writer and producer, Carolyn is a founding member of Burglars of Hamm, a Los Angeles theater company and playwriting collective that has been compared to Monty Python and Talking Heads. With the Burglars, Carolyn has performed in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, New York and Edinburgh, winning awards for performance (New York Fringe) and playwriting (Backstage West Garlands, Ovation nominations). Burglar plays have also been produced by various professional and academic theatre companies around the country. Besides her work with the Burglars, Carolyn has performed with many other Los Angeles theatres, including Orphean Circus, Bootleg Theatre, Playwright's Arena, Echo Theatre Company, The Road Theatre Company, Frantic Redhead Productions, LA Women's Shakespeare (DramaLogue Award for "Richard III") and The Virginia Avenue Project. Her most recent live performance was in "Level 5", a 24 hour performance art piece at the Armand Hammer Museum and at the San Jose Biennial. Carolyn has done a little film and television, including a role in Disney's "The Country Bears"; she currently works commercially. As an individual playwright, Carolyn is a member of Dog Ear Playwright's Collective. Currently, she is working with Burglars of Hamm on a commission for Center Theatre Group which will receive a workshop production in the summer of 2011.
