Lana Spraker

M.A., Alexander Technique – Theater Arts 315

LanaSpraker, teacher of the Alexander Technique, is a nationally certified teacher through the American Society for the Alexander Technique. (AmSAT). A graduate of the Alexander Training Institute of Los Angeles, she received advanced teacher training with Walter Carrington at the Constructive Teaching Center in London. Her work is enriched by a Master’s Degree in Dance Therapy from UCLA and a background of teaching T’ai Chi Ch’uan and Qi Gong internationally for over 36 years.

Inaddition to being on the Theater Arts faculty of Loyola Marymount University since 2000, Ms. Spraker has taught Alexander Technique for the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum Shakespeare Theatre in Topanga Canyonand for the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood.

Herprivate students include actors from television, stage and musical theater. She coaches musicians and choral directors, teaching them how to use their bodies and voices in the most healthful, least destructive way. Ms. Spraker has been a featured presenter on the Alexander Technique for the Spondylitis Association of America, the national Sacred Dance Guild and the L.A. Times Festival of Health. She has presented several workshops for the Zen Center of Los Angeles on applying the Alexander Technique to meditation.
