ART FIRST Trauma Training and Response Program

In this section

Dr. Paige Asawa, MFT, ATR-BC, Clinic Director, held the ART FIRST Trauma Training and Response Program all day training for the Helen B. Landgarten Art Therapy Clinic. Recent events around the world have raised awareness of the importance of being prepared and the recent training day clarified the unique role art therapist can play in disasters and traumatic events. More than 35 alumni and students joined together with our HBL Art Therapy Clinic partners the American Red Cross and Save the Children to provide four training sessions throughout the day. One participant said, "It was important to have the experiential part of the day with hands on training". Licensed alumni completed the training necessary to become certified Disaster Mental Health responders for the American Red Cross and earned 7.5 free CEU's. Students completed the training necessary to facilitate the Child-Friendly Spaces program for Save the Children. The students and alumni made several suggestions for follow up training so look for more information soon!
