MFTH Bids Farewell to Paige Asawa
Alumni, students, faculty and clinicians from the Department of Marital and Family Therapy bid farewell to Paige Asawa, former director of the Helen B. Landgarten Art Therapy Clinic, at a gathering on October 21. At the reception, clinic staff presented Paige with an art piece created in honor of her departure.
Paige was a faculty member since 1998 and received her Master's degree in Marital and Family Therapy from the LMU program, where she was a Helen B. Landgarten Scholar of 1992. She received her Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the Union Institute & University in 2003. Paige headed the Helen B. Landgarten Art Therapy Clinic since 2008, where she developed several comprehensive programs that provide art therapy services for underserved populations in the Los Angeles area. She was twice awarded the Distinguished Clinician of the Year from the American Art Therapy Association in 2006 for providing art therapy for victims of Hurricane Katrina and again in 2016 for her work providing family art therapy services.
