Overview
The Music Theory and Composition Concentration at LMU Music enables students to further their studies in harmony, counterpoint, and formal analysis, and to embark on private lessons in composition. Students in this concentration also gain experience in World Music performance and have ample opportunity to present their original works to the public.

Academic Requirements
In addition to the 38 semester hours of general music major requirements and one semester of French, German, or Italian, students in the Music Theory & Composition Concentration complete a total of 12 semester hours (units): MUSC 380 Composition (1 unit, repeatable); MUSC 454 World Music Ensemble (1 unit, repeatable); MUSC 496 Theory Placement Practicum (1 unit); one of the following 3-unit courses as offered: MUSC 319 Analytic Techniques, MUSC 322 Modal Counterpoint, or MUSC 323 Tonal Counterpoint; and six semester hours of music electives.
A grade of B+ (3.3) or better in the four semesters of Music Theory & Form sequence of courses (MUSC 121, MUSC 122, MUSC 221, MUSC 222) is required to be considered for admission to the Music Theory & Composition Concentration.
