Global Vision Statement

Our Communication Studies Department promotes responsible global citizenship through curriculum development, faculty research, and intercultural exchange. We view internationalization as essential for the success of our program and our students. Our courses in all areas of concentration integrate global, international, and transnational content, thereby exposing students to diverse communication theories, practices, and perspectives (see a list of selected courses below). Our program attracts students from around the world, and our students have many opportunities to enrich their education at LMU through studying abroad.

Our curriculum is designed to enhance students’ intercultural competencies, cultivate their global critical thinking abilities, and develop their ethical decision-making and problem-solving skills, which are pivotal for their success on the global stage. Within our program, students learn to foster cross-cultural relationships, navigate complex intercultural challenges, excel in global workplaces, create media products for global audiences, and advocate for social justice for marginalized communities. Our coursework equips them with a deep understanding of the diverse systems and structures that shape communication industries and practices. Through research and community outreach, our faculty members actively build global and transnational connections and expertise, further enriching the educational journey of our students in the department.
