Major in Dance

Loyola Marymount University’s Dance Program offers three distinct undergraduate degrees each designed to meet the diverse needs of our student body and prepare them for varied careers in dance.

  • BA in Dance
  • BA in Dance Pedagogy and Social Action
  • BA in Choreography and Performance

All students enter into the BA in Dance degree and take the same courses in the first year of the program.

Towards the end of their first year, students can choose whether they want to continue pursuing the BA in Dance, or pursue the BA in Choreography and Performance, or the BA in Dance Pedagogy and Social Action which come with additional academic requirements and opportunities.

Each degree emphasizes physical rigor and excellence, critical thinking, marketable skills, and professional competencies to support students in building sustainable and fulfilling careers.

Key Features of the Majors

  • 54% of the courses are the same across all three dance degrees. Students move as a cohort through integrated courses and program-specific courses, fostering community and collaboration.
  • The backbone of all 3 programs is the carefully curated study of ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, and jazz, which are pedagogically sequenced to align with the University’s distinguished core curriculum—Foundations, Explorations, and Integrations.
