Can You Bring It: Bill T. Jones and D-Man in the Waters is an award-winning feature length documentary that evolved out of the educational partnership between LMU and the Jones/Zane Company. Produced by Professor Rosalynde LeBlanc, and co-directed with renowned documentarian Tom Hurwitz, ASC, the film engaged twenty-five LMU students both in front and behind the camera. Can You Bring It earned research and production grants from the Graves Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation, and the Ford Foundation. The film opened in theaters across the U.S. and Canada in 2021 and was a N.Y. Times Critic’s Choice and on the Best Films lists of Vulture and Esquire magazines that year. In 2023, Can You Bring It was nationally televised as the season 15 opener for AfroPop: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange and went on to win the Peabody Award, which recognizes “the most powerful, enlightening, and invigorating stories in all of television, radio, and online media.”
