Senior Dance majors pursuing the B.A. in Performance and Choreography who are interested in careers in concert dance may elect to participate in the Concert Career Showcase.
Presented as part of the LMU Fall Dance Concert, the showcase features students in a dedicated work choreographed by a guest artist, in addition to any faculty or guest artist works they are cast in through the department’s fall audition process. This structure ensures that students are both highlighted individually and fully integrated into the broader concert experience. Local choreographers and industry professionals are invited to attend the performance and a post-show reception, offering valuable opportunities for networking and career-building dialogue.
Students enrolled in this track participate in a curated guest artist series throughout the fall semester, with a focus on concert dance repertory. Each session offers the chance to train with and learn from professional choreographers, followed by informal networking that fosters lasting industry connections.
Concert Dance guest artists have included:
- MashUp Contemporary Dance Company
- LA Contemporary Dance Company
- Becca Lemme / ACTS OF MATTER
- Volta Collective
- Gianna Burright
- Entity Contemporary Dance Company
- Brett Easterling
- Aszure Barton
- Barack Marshall
- Jermaine Spivey
- Camila Arana… and more!
In addition to performance opportunities and networking, students receive professional headshots, a curated performance reel, and individualized mentorship from LMU Dance faculty. Faculty advisors support students in identifying companies and choreographers aligned with their goals and help facilitate introductions that strengthen the transition from academic training to a professional concert dance career.
The Concert Career Showcase concludes at the end of the fall semester, allowing students interested in both concert and commercial dance pathways to fully engage in both showcase experiences during their senior year.
