Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) are the hub of student involvement, leadership and excellence at LMU.
RSOs—such as clubs, sorority and fraternity chapters, honor societies, service groups, sports teams and more—offer opportunities for all students at LMU to get involved, contribute, lead and make lasting friendships along the way.
With over 200 student organizations at LMU, this helpful LEO search engine allows you to find a RSO that meets your interests.
There are three Registered Student Organization (RSO) Dance Crews at LMU, each led entirely by students with guidance from a faculty advisor.
In addition, LMU hosts two dance-focused service organizations: the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Honors Society and Movement Exchange.
GENESIS DANCE CREW
Introducing the dance crew, Genesis, to LMU’s campus. Our primary focuses are creation, community, and choreography. Genesis strives to help dancers and non-dancers grow in technique, creativity, confidence, and style. Genesis was created “by students for students”. It is a space where all people can come together, dance, and have fun. All are welcome, and we hope the crew is full of new beginnings, creation, inclusivity, and community.
We hope to change the intimidating and stressful aspects of classes seen in of a lot of the dance classes found in Los Angeles. We hope to create a safe space for all students and dancers to connect, learn, grow, create, engage, and have fun.
We believe that dance is for everyone. Not only is dance a lot of fun and a great source of exercise, but it also surprisingly helps people in all aspects of life. Dance scientifically helps people with growth in areas like collaboration, confidence, motor skills, memory, physical coordination, emotional and mental health, cognitive function, and social experiences.
To be an official member of the crew one must audition at the beginning of the semester, however, Genesis also hosts frequent open classes for anyone and everyone who wants to explore or experiment with dance! Classes range from styles like Hip Hop, Jazz Funk, Heels, and more.
KUUMBA DANCE CREW
Kuumba is a hip hop dance crew for BIPOC students! This crew was created for BIPOC to have a safe space at LMU where they can express their feelings through dance! Kuumba is a word in swahili meaning creativity! It’s also the sixth principle of Kwanzaa!
RADIX DANCE TEAM
Radix Dance Crew strives to be a community of diverse dancers who support one another in and outside of the dance studio. Established in 2007 on Loyola Marymount University’s campus, Radix’s style focuses on movement, choreographic invention, free-flowing creativity, and influences of social and cultural dance. Radix values each member as an individual who brings unique experiences and knowledge to the collective crew. The dance crew’s motto is "Know Your Roots” as Radix values the education of cultural history, family, and community.
