Helen B. Landgarten Art Therapy Clinic
The Helen B. Landgarten Art Therapy Clinic provides practicum training opportunities for students enrolled in the Marital & Family Therapy with Specialized Training in Art Therapy Program. The Clinic contracts with outreach programs, schools and other organizations that lack the means to provide needed mental health services to underserved communities. Art therapy is provided to marginalized populations at designated sites by LMU students who receive supervision, support, and clinical training through the Clinic. A wide range of clinical issues are addressed including exposure to trauma and violence, vulnerability due to poverty, marginalization due to immigration or unhoused status, incarceration and the resulting symptoms of hopelessness, depression & anxiety. Using a strength-based approach, LMU students provide much needed services in the community that embody LMU's mission to promote social justice & Helen Landgarten’s vision to support those facing serious obstacles in life.
