Application & Admission FAQs

  • There are opportunities to ask questions regarding the admissions process at our Information Sessions.  Use the Contact Us tab to send us your request to be on our mailing list for Information Session announcement.

    We do not review transcripts; however if you have questions about a particular class you can email the description of the class for review.

  • The application rates vary from year to year; however, we accept approximately twenty students each year.

  • No, the program follows a thoughtful progression of coursework over two-year or three-year periods beginning in the fall.

  • Yes, it is highly recommended that you attend an information session to have the most recent information on the program and direct access to current students, alumni and faculty members to answer your questions.

  • Yes, you can apply to the program; however, complete applications are given priority review.

  • Yes, the admissions committee considers the whole application in the review process.

  • No, volunteer service is not required to be admitted; however, it is helpful in gaining a deeper understanding of art therapy and the mental health field.

  • Yes, International applicants who have received their degree and have taken prerequisite courses at a college or university outside the United States must have their transcripts evaluated for equivalency.  Also,  international applicants must have an acceptable TOEFL score. More info

     

  • Yes, but if you have a mix of semester units and quarter units you will need to convert the quarter units to semester units to calculate the sum of all of your prerequisite units.   One (1) quarter unit equals 0.667 semester units. A four (4) quarter unit course is equal to 2.667 semester units.

  • There is no particular undergraduate degree that is recommended.

  • No, the prerequisites do not have to be part of your undergraduate program. They can be completed at any accredited colleges or universities, including community college or extension programs and should be completed in the specific disciplines of studio art and psychology.

  • No. You may apply while still in the process of completing the prerequisites, but if accepted, you must complete all the prerequisites BEFORE you may start taking courses in the program.

  • Prerequisites can be completed at any accredited college or university, including community college and extension programs.

  • No. 

  • Yes, prerequisites can be completed at accredited community colleges, colleges and universities that have online courses.

  • Yes, we accept the scores from either test.

  • Yes, two letters of recommendation are required and there is no required source for the letters. When you submit the online Graduate School application, there is a section within the application where you may "register" recommenders by providing the name and email address of your recommenders. The recommenders will then receive an automatic email prompting them with instructions on how to submit an electronic letter on your behalf.
