The following steps apply to entering First-Year students.
The first step in your summer onboarding is completing all required tasks in your Future Lions Portal. This includes submitting forms, reviewing placement and key deadlines. LMU uses your Lion email for all official university communication. Check it regularly.
CFA Summer Advising
One of your final Future Lions tasks is to schedule a registration appointment with a faculty advisor in your major. During this appointment, you’ll discuss course options, explore your academic interests, and plan your first-semester schedule.
If you still have questions afterward, the CFA Advisement Center is here to help. You can email cfaadvise@lmu.edu.
Pre-Registered Courses
You’ve already been registered in the courses you need to start your CFA major. These classes follow a planned sequence, and some are only offered in fall or spring.
Do not drop or change these courses before meeting with your faculty advisor. Doing so can disrupt your course sequence and affect when you can take future classes.
You’ll review your schedule and discuss any questions during your advising appointment. This is an opportunity to discuss your academic plans and interests.
Need Help Before your Registration Appointment?
Contact your admission counselor, email admission@lmu.edu, or call 310.338.2750.
How many units Should I take?
You must enroll in a minimum of 12 units per semester to be considered a full-time student at LMU.
Recommended Load
Taking 15–16 units each term allows you to meet your graduation requirements in eight semesters without needing summer courses.
Can I declare a second major or a minor in my first semester?
Students do not declare additional academic programs of study during their first semester, but it’s great that you’re planning ahead.
Entering Transfer studentsFollowing completion of the admission process, incoming transfer students meet with CFA Senior Coordinator of Academic Services, Rachel Van Houten, to review their academic plan and complete registration for their first-semester schedule. Students will receive communication through their official LMU Lion email with instructions to schedule their advising and registration appointment. No additional steps are required until that communication is received.
