Presented on Feb. 9-12, 15-18, Strub Theatre

Two of the world's greatest playwrights create a stunning classical tragedy! Nobel Laureate and President's Marymount Institute Professor in Residence Wole Soyinka adapts, translates and transforms Euripides's tribute to the power of the god of theatre into a celebration of the revolutionary and spiritual power of imagination and drama. "The Bacchae is the rites of an extravagant banquet, a monstrous feast," Soyinka writes. King Pentheus seeks to end the worship of Dionysus, god of the grape and of the stage, but sacrifice and ritual and the energies they unleash transform political oppression into a (horrifying) celebration of life.
