Dean's Welcome
Welcome to LMU College of Communication and Fine Arts’ 2022-2023 Events and Performance Season. We are excited and optimistic of what this new academic year will bring. Our undergirding commitments to creativity, innovation, the service of faith and promotion of justice are made manifest in the diverse season of events: performances, lectures, workshops, and exhibitions that we offer to our students and our audiences.
One of the hallmarks of public performance and exhibition is liveliness - the quality of being outgoing, energetic, enthusiastic and the established atmosphere of excitement and activity. Also, liveliness as it refers to live bodies in relation to other live bodies; pieces of artistic expression displayed for immediate in-person viewing, and presence in moments of rhetorical import with audiences feeling into a shared experience of witness. And, liveness as performance and art reflecting issues of everyday living. We are planning to engage the liveliness of all we do with care and caution.
While we have a lot on slate for this academic year, we are particularly thrilled to further activate our new outdoor performance venue, the Drollinger Family Stage, with all aspects of our critical and creative endeavors. And at the end of the Fall 2022 semester, our historical Strub Theatre will begin an exciting renovation, with a grand reopening and dedication in the Fall 2023.
Our upcoming season will be dynamic, offering a range of activities as we continue to address the shifting conditions that impact our critical and creative labor. We invite you to join us in that space where probability meets possibility as we move into both a new season and the new normal of our collective futures.
Sincerely,
Bryant Keith Alexander, Ph.D
