Bearing Witness: Daniel Heyman
January 15 – March 13, 2011
Over the past few years, Daniel Heyman has traveled to Jordan and Turkey to meet with former Abu Ghraib detainees, to paint and engrave their portraits, and to record their testimony. He has also had the opportunity to spend time with African American men in Philadelphia and recent immigrants to the U.S. who have endured very difficult circumstances here at home. Through his sensitive depictions and inclusion of their own words, Heyman's portraits "restore dignity and individuality to those who have been deprived of their most basic human rights."
